Vintage collectible Lefton girl figurine. She has a ponytail, holding a flower. She has obviously stopped to smell the roses. Her apron appears to be swept up in a breeze. Very delicate and quite lovely. Stamped Lefton China Hand Painted KW2517. Made in Japan. 4.5" tall. She is in great vintage condition with no chips or cracks About The company was started by George Zoltan Lefton, an avid china collector with no professional experience in the porcelain market. From 1945 to 1953, Lefton imported a variety of items, including figurines, head vases, and kitchen wares. When Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1941, many Japanese-owned businesses in Chicago were looted. Lefton helped board up a business owned by Nunome, a Japanese-American friend. After the war, Nunome assisted Lefton in developing essential relationships with china producers in Occupied Japan. Lefton China continued to be produced in Japan until the 1970s. Production in the 1980s and beyond moved to Taiwan and Malaysia. Most importantly, the quality remained high. Unfortunately, George Z. Lefton died in 1996 and the Lefton Company was sold in 2001 after 60 years of producing some of America's most popular collectibles and kitchenware.
