@treeline Hey! I see you are from Anchorage! Did you work at ADN? I was there for twelve years until, I believe 2001, then at Matson (Sea-land, CSX Lines, Horizon Lines — all the same company) until I retired last year.

@larsoninak Hi! Yes, I work there currently. I can’t imagine what it was like there in the ‘90s, especially post newspaper war (and with such a big staff back then). I hope you’re enjoying retirement!

@treeline That’s why I have the Millennium t-shirt, too. I can’t believe it’s been that long since I worked there! One year after 2000! Crazy time. I was in accounting doing budgeting, finance, payroll, and telecommunications. Weird combo, I know. I installed, maintained, and programmed the telephony systems and was one of two people who did payroll for 500 people (way back when it was a thriving newspaper — and we’d just barely dove into the internet as part of community communications).

@treeline Oh cool! It was a different time back then, for sure. Are you a reporter, was the question I always got. No, but I knew everyone, from the news room, to production, to sales, etc. It was really an amazing time back then. I wish you could have seen it. I worked under the CEO and publisher when we bought the assets to the Anchorage Times. I was one of the few people who knew they were going under before it happened — when we were negotiating buying their assets.

@treeline And, yes, I am thoroughly enjoying retirement. Oddly, we have a home in Arizona (Kingman, on the Route 66), a place I never imagined we’d move to — especially being born and raised here. We just couldn’t afford our desired locations in WA, ID, and OR, with all the price wars. Anyway, I have amazing stories from back then. What do you do there?
