Lagardo Tackett Schmid Mid-Century Modern Porcelain 5 Espresso Cups, 2 Saucers

Set includes 2 saucers and 5 espresso cups - 7 pieces total This vintage Schmid espresso cup is a rare find for collectors of Mid-Century Modern style. Made of porcelain, this tall demitasse cup features a blue color and a printed backstamp. The cup is branded by Schmid and was manufactured in Japan in 1959. Designed by LaGardo Tackett (1911 - 1984). His work included oversized pots, simply known as “Architectural Pottery,” which stood as planters and totems at the edges of pools, in courtyards, and in the arid gardens of California. Ceramics collectors can usually identify Tackett’s minimalist white porcelain tableware, but his creations include scores of other forms and several signature colors, like these blue cups.
