The design is based on the traditional dress of Namibian women of the Herero tribe who have appropriated the styles forced on them by colonizers into symbols of resistance and resiliency. The fabric in the dresses are a combination of vintage pieces sourced from all over the US and deadstock fabric from NY cutting rooms. Many of these materials would otherwise be thrown away. The designs make use of what already exists in order to divert materials from landfills.
