What an amazing look from the era! This emerald green straw fedora from the 1940s' consists of a tall, indented crown surrounded by a shorter brim with downturned edges. The brim is folded upwards at one side, creating an amazing asymetrical look, and exposes the bottom of the crown, which is edged in black grosgrain. Surrounding the crown there is a matching green veil which is draped and knotted at one side, creating a long cascade. At the other side of the brim which is folded upwards there are two stunning imitation "peaches" with small white fabric flowers, leaves and stem. A remarkable look!
The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war and on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling and artificial flowers were popular.
There is no label, indicating it was a custom-made creation.
This hat is in wonderful vintage condition and has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Mannequin not for sale.
