Larimar’s main compound is a mineral called Pectolite (Sodium Calcium Silicate Hydroxide). Pectolite has a Mohs hardness of 4.5 to 5, and it is found in a wide variety of worldwide locations. According to test carried out by Smithsonian Institute using X Ray Diffraction, Blue Pectolite (LARIMAR) discovered in 1974 in Dominican Republic, is the only variety found in the world. The only place where Larimar, or blue pectolite appears in Dominican Republic is the province of Barahona.

rockcandy4u @redd2900 I once had a lady argue with me about Larimar. She bought a piece from another Poshmark seller who told her that it was a more expensive type of turquoise. And if it was cheaper than 150.00, it was fake. I believe everyone could use the education. I hate seeing people getting taken advantage of. 🤗 Thankyou!!!

redd2900 @dawn2u777 I can see how that can happen when someone doesn’t know much about gems. I love Larimar! My daughter got me a pendant while we were in DR for her wedding. It’s really beautiful. Another favorite of mine is turquoise 💕. As you can see I’ve liked many things in your closet! I just couldn’t help it. Lol 😂
