How adorable 💖💖💖💖 Do you love them? Are they like pets to you? Are they affectionate?
Jan 10Reply

njgrl54
@yoga4joy yes, they’re sweet. A little wary cause we’re predators to them. I use them for their fiber to make yarn and then dye it for sale.
Jan 11Reply

yoga4joy
@njgrl54 poor babies, they look like sweet pets😍does it hurt them at all in the process or is it done slowly by hand as to not pull their sweet hair or hurt their skin? How many do you have ok your farm at a time? I don't wear or support the company uggs bc of what they do to their sheep!! They do it on a large scale and the things they do to their sheep are horrible but I can't imagine it would be even remotely like that on a small scale with real people with kind hearts.
Jan 11Reply

njgrl54
@yoga4joy They are shorn once a year in Spring and they tolerate it just fine. Their fiber is amazing! They are livestock not pets though.
Jan 13Reply

yoga4joy
@njgrl54 I'm glad to hear that they tolerate it well! I'm glad you are good to them. You sound kind. It must be lovely having farm land, but likely lots of work to upkeep it! My boyfriend grandparents used to own 100 acres in Hobart and had a strawberry farm that produced each summer but as they had their family and got older they sold off some property and divided the remaining 60 acres between them and their 5 kids. Its beautiful out there! I have my own small garden on their property.

@njgrl54 oh my girl, you shared my entire closet. I bet your hand is tired. Can't thank you enough, 😍😍🏹
Feb 13Reply

cruelgirlarcher
@yoga4joy aww, you're so cute, you thought they pulled their hair out, @njgrl54 I don't know a lot about alpaca but we used to raise sheep for their wool, before it was cool to own alpacas. I know their hair is very desired. I think your prices are awesome compared to what I've seen. I would like to get a scarf from you.
Feb 13Reply

cruelgirlarcher
@njgrl54 if you have something with blues maybe, is that even possible?
Feb 13Reply

yoga4joy
@cruelgirlarcher no love just thought they were possibly rough with the animals like the company UGG. I have never and will never ever wear UGG bc of videos I've seen omg its so so sad. But this gal is gentle with her babies thank goodness and smaller local farms are where it's at.
Feb 13Reply

cruelgirlarcher
@yoga4joy I did not know that about Ugh, yuk☹️ glad I don't own any.
Feb 13Reply

yoga4joy
@cruelgirlarcher it pretty well hidden info but I'm a big fur baby lover and that extends to birds, livestock, shoot I even love geese. I love all animals. I love squirrels and rats. I have compassion for rats for crying out loud. My love for the fur runs deep. I just watch how they care for one another and protect each other in love and feel so deeply for them.
Feb 13Reply

Apr 02Reply

stacescloset
@njgrl54 hi! I love the pictures of your alpacas! My family and I went to Peru this year and we all fell in love with the alpaca 🦙. We were able to visit with a lady (and her family) who makes her own for and uses the wool to make goods. It’s incredible. Thank you for sharing this. Happy posting! It was a treat to meet you on Poshmark! 😊
May 17Reply

njgrl54
@artzstuf yes, I send the fleeces to a mill and they make the yarn, roving, batting and rug yarn. I dye the yarn and also make felted soaps, dryer balls and other products. I just bought a loom and am making a rug. It’s great to be able to use what my animals produce!
May 18Reply

May 19Reply

Aug 18Reply

txblingqueen
Omg. I used to have 2 alpaca. Years ago. It’s just too hot 🥵 in South Texas for them. I have only one horse and cattle now. Love your babies. Remember the days of shaving them down. Not too long ago. Like 7 years.
Sep 21Reply

njgrl54
@thriftythrive Thank you!
Sep 22Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen They are cute. And fun to have around. Mostly. I have a 4 day old baby that doesn’t want to nurse. Trying to avoid bottle feeding. Have been out to the barn every 3 hours anyway. 35 degrees here this morning. 🥶
Sep 22Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 wow. 🙏🏼for that baby. It’s 100 degrees here. I think it’s just too hot here for them. Mine would lay in the water to cool off. They are so cute. I never had a baby baby. Oh my. I’d be in heaven🥰. I hope the baby takes the bottle. I had to take a calf surgery n to be tube fed; but he did not make it after all. I’ve had to learn that nature has her way.
Sep 22Reply

txblingqueen
@yoga4joy I don’t like uggs either. But I used to have a few alpacas. They love being shaved. It’s cooler for them. They are warm in the winter with their coat. They are so darned cute. If it was not hot in Texas I would have 25 of them. Just too hot 🥵 here for those babies.
Sep 22Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 I would be freezing to death in 35 degrees. We barely get that here in the dead of winter. Oh my. I would shiver to death
Sep 22Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen Baby is drinking from the bottle and still nurses off mom but not long. I don’t know what the deal is. I think I’m going to be stuck with a bottle baby. No sleep for a while. I have another baby due 10/2. Then one due 10/23.
Sep 23Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen I know there’s a lot of alpacas in Texas. Not sure of what area. I see them at shows. They do get hot under all that fiber. Most people put fans on.
Sep 23Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen I think it’s 35 again. 37 when I went out at 4. It usually drops a few more degrees before sun up. Texas would be hot for me. Is it humid? That’s the worst!
Sep 23Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 I would love to bottle feed. I miss the days of having to bottle feed baby fawns, because mom deserted. I raised axis, white tail deer and had tons of farm animals. Ducks geese chickens, rabbits, cats. Horses 🐎 cattle. Blackbuck and 2 llamas. Still have the property but animals pretty much gone.
Sep 23Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 I would get used to the cold I guess. Would get good use out of all my coats. Yes it’s going to be 98 degrees today and it’s humid after a little rain, which we are in a drought.
Sep 23Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 most of those alpacas are up in the panhandle of Texas near Oklahoma. It’s so much cooler up north. They get tornadoes 🌪 too. I really am in a safe area. Worst thing I get is hail storms. Sometimes the size of golf balls or bigger. Damages roofs and cars
Sep 23Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 keep me posted on the babies. I’m so jelly; but I know it can get OLD real fast. It’s like having a new born. No sleep and just get tired of doing. Maybe you can get a high school student that wants extra credit for school to come help. I would try to do an internship with college student to help.
Sep 23Reply

princessams14
Can I get one of these?🐶 oh my God they’re so cute.no spitting please💃
Sep 26Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen I’ve got some part time help. Baby is losing weight so I’m supplementing with goats milk. He still nurses from mom. I have to be careful not to make him into a bottle baby!
Sep 26Reply

njgrl54
@princessams14 yes, I have some for sale cheap! You need 2 though. 😊
Sep 26Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 I hear ya girl. I’ve never had to bottle raise an Alpaca; but I sure have baby cow and baby deer. How long will you have to supplement with the bottle; before it can eat on his own? Do you ever geld the males! Or is that something done with JUST horses? I thought the two I had were gelded males. I’m talking 16 years ago and my memory fails me. Lol. Mine did NOT ever spit at me. They were very tamed UNTIL I let the 2 run the property with the horses and cattle.
Sep 26Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 maybe when I get back on the ranch; I will get a few from you. But I would have to get some shears and do the work myself. I don’t think the girl that helped me is around anymore. You almost NEED a little help. I ran the family farm for 10 years by MYSELF; up until 2015. Kept me young and in shape. NOW I’m falling apart🥴
Sep 26Reply

princessams14
Ahaha I was just kidding .someday maybe if I got a place for them.for now not possible I live in a city.but seriously I would love to have.i saw some on tv Idk if your familiar with dr pol?the vet.they are so cute.i wish I could have them as pet someday🥰 how much are you selling them?are they baby alpaca yet?
Sep 26Reply

princessams14
Do they need to have a partner ?
Sep 26Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen yes, we geld them. Then they are considered fiber males. There are shearers that come over from New Zealand every spring to shear alpacas. You could get in touch with one of them. Not sure how long I’ll have to bottle feed. He’s still nursing from mom. I checked and she definitely has milk. I don’t know what the deal is. He sure likes the bottle. I’m mixing goat, regular milk and Greek yogurt now. I’ve used that combo and in the past and it worked well.
Sep 27Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen it’s good work. Keeps you young. What kind of farm did your family have?
Sep 27Reply

txblingqueen
@njgrl54 That’s the deal. Sounds yummy. Probably much SWEETER than mommas milk. Think 🤔 about this; if you had a choice to work at getting mom’s milk OR a bottle that’s EASIER and SWEETER. Heck yea! Sounds they you have a group of INTELLIGENT Llamas. So funny! Working with animals for so many years myself; I’ve noticed how SMART they can be.
Sep 27Reply

njgrl54
@princessams14 I haven’t seen the TV show. They do need a partner. I have 2 for $1000 right now. Fiber boys, they are gelded. I have one baby. Another any day. Due date is 10/2. Baby Noe is turning out to be a bottle baby. Can’t get enough from mom apparently.
Sep 27Reply

Dad lives with his new girlfriend in San Antonio. They show up on weekends only. I will probably move back after my dad passes someday unless I go FIRST🥴
Sep 27Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen wonderful to have a farm and keep it in the family. My place is spread out over 3 properties that have rental homes on them. The horses have free range over the 10 acres. Alpacas have 3 pastures that are alpaca safe. I manage the rentals and raise alpacas that I make no money on, I sold quite a bit of yarn last year.
Sep 28Reply

njgrl54
@txblingqueen He loves the goat milk! He’s waiting for me when he hears the house door shut and me walking down the stairs. I think mom gets upset. He didn’t like the mixture as much as straight goat. They are smart. I have one baby due in the next few days, I bet she sneaks it out the moment I leave for a second.
