Hi. I hope this doesn’t sound like a dumb question, but how does that spout work with the plasticky part? Is that plasticky part a lock of some kind?

@happiness5 Good morning. The Pink lever connected to the Spout is used to open and close the spout lid. When the lever is in the down position the spout lid is open. Hope this answers your question. If not let me know.

@avkivashoppe Top of the morning. Thank you for your quick response. And the handle does not get too hot (seeing how it looks like it is made mostly of steel)?
Warmly,
Debbie

@happiness5 I brought it to a boil in order to make sure I heard the whistle and at that point I was able to lift by the handle without any discomfort. (short answer, the handle was not hot)

@avkivashoppe Okay, I will think on it since my kettle has gotten so chipped and burned over the years. :-)

@happiness5 I don’t believe so. I am currently on the road so as soon as I get home I will verify,

I have added a new closeup photo which reveals minimal hairline type scratches on the spout lid. No signs of rust were seen. Please check the newly added photo. Thanks

Thank you so much. That additional photo is very considerate of you. I’m surprised you don’t want this kettle. I see a lot of people selling this very same kettle for some reason. Is the latch pesky?

happiness5
Can you show me a video how you press down the latch just so I see how it works because it seems so atypical to me.

@happiness5 Most KitchenAid kitchen items are atypical in design and that is why customers are still drawn to them. There are 2 closeup photos listed which shows 1. the spout lid up lever down and 2. Spout lid closed and lever in the up position. The mechanism construction around the spout will keep the spout lid locked in the open position until you are ready tolightly pull upward on the lever to close the lid.
