@1jillbrown I am a size 8.5/9 and my feet will go in and be flat, however they definitely don't fit me. Because I can get my whole foot in, I would say they are designed to be worn with cozy thicker socks, otherwise there is typically no way. Hopefully that makes sense to you and I don't sound maladjusted.
