Richly colored plate signed 20 X 25” lithograph: The Arrow, 1943 by Wassily Kandinsky (1866 - 1944).
Kandinsky was a Russian painter/art theorist, generally credited as the pioneer of abstract art. Brilliant & well-educated, he taught at the Bauhaus School of Art/Architecture in Berlin.
“Painting was deeply spiritual for Kandinsky. He sought to convey profound spirituality and the depth of human emotion through a universal visual language of abstract forms/colors that transcended cultural and physical boundaries.
Kandinsky viewed non-objective, abstract art as the ideal visual mode to express the ‘inner necessity’ of the artist and convey universal human emotions/ideas. [He] viewed music as the most transcendent form of non-objective art - musicians could evoke images in listeners' minds merely with sounds. He strove to produce similarly object-free, spiritually rich paintings that alluded to sounds and emotions through a unity of sensation.” -The Art Story
I purchased this lithograph at an estate auction with other rare mid century works. This is an excellent example of the purity of form & expression Kandinsky was so well known for- a fine example of work he produced near the end of his life. This is SIGNED IN THE PLATE as many of his pieces were- presented as an open edition lithograph; it is not numbered, therefore I cannot ascertain the date of printing.
It is unframed, will be carefully packed/shipped/fully insured with tracking. Buyer will be required to sign.
