Both brand new in plastic wrap. The white "Quotables Journal" has 200 lined, sewn, acid free pages and a saying by Thoreau on the front. The brown "Markings Portfolio Journal" is genuine bonded leather (see last photo for materials that make up the bonded leather) with a bonus 160 pages writing pad on the back and a business card holder inside the front flap.
