Fantastic vintage 1950s tinted lithograph produced by Franklin Pictures. Artist is John Haymson. The Mid-Century Modern, spontaneous pen and ink style illustration is a print. Tinted by hand with subtly toned watercolors. Colors: pale taupe, clay, celestial blue, black, gray, khaki green, and yellow. Frame is original, in antique brass and faux ebonized wood. Quite deep and substantial. Paper of lithograph is a warm French vanilla cream color. Lively and optimistic post-war, urban cityscape titled "Michigan Boulevard, Chicago." Intact glass. Entire measurement is 13” x 15” Interior image is 9.75” ×11.5” "John Haymson was born in Austria in the early 1900s, and he was accepted into the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts at the age of 16. After studying graphics in France and Germany in the 1930s, he started painting designs on silk for the textile industry. During WWII, John Haymson's painting skills proved useful : he made portraits of Nazi officials and their families until visas came through, keeping him and his wife from being sent to a concentration camp. After arriving in the United States, John Haymson's paintings took on a new life. He began doing detailed portraits and American cityscapes in watercolor, oils, and lithographs. John Haymson’s artwork hangs in the Smithsonian American Art Museum."
