This Japanese obon (tray) is from Okinawa and made of black lacquer. It has a red hibiscus flower on it in relief, and the edge of the tray is sightly upturned. Traditionally, these trays were used to carry tableware or food, or in tea ceremonies for guests. This lacquer tray is in good condition and only been used as display. Received this as a gift in Japan about 2004. Measures 9.5" across.
