This colorful and large graphic painting of Jerusalem is by Eva Deutsch who has been living and working in New York City for over 66 years. Her career as an artist blossomed after her imprisonment in an Italian concentration camp during the Holocaust. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and later at Pratt Institute under the teaching of Franz Kline. Her portfolio spans from life drawing to painting dramatic abstracts with a main constant of color. The post-World War II movement, based in New York and made famous by Jackson Pollock, William de Kooning and Mark Rothko, focused on action, emotion and spontaneous creation and helped Costabel deal with the turmoil in her life. This painting is vibrant and stunning with metallic gold lettering and roofs on some buildings. Some chipped paint, especially on the sky. See pics. A modern masterpiece.
