IRRESISTIBLE 1930's NAVY STRAW TILT HAT WITH "FRUITS" & VEILING

This is one of those rare tilt toy hats from the 1930s'. The crown is shaped like a mini top hat, and is surrounded by a short brim which holds some spider veiling (though it has some damage, it is left on the hat for interest and drama, but can be removed), and some amazing "fruits". There is an elastic band attached to the inside to keep the hat in a tilted position. This is such a cute and timeless hat! Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills. The ‘Toy’ or ‘Doll’ hat was a very small hat that perched on the very front of the forehead.
