I make sure to only list items that are Poshmark compliant. It only makes it better for everyone if we all play by the rules. If you're wondering what items are not allowed, just take a look at some of the guidelines I have posted above. When in doubt just send an email to Poshmark and they'll get back to you with clarification. I only share items from fellow compliant closets. Thanks for doing all to can to make Poshmark a great shopping experience for everyone. Happy Poshing! 

skylarkvintage @pailface70 They just ignore it, or don't read the details of Poshmark's guidelines. It's amazing the things I've seen listed. Toys, books, paintings. It's crazy. 😜

pearlgirl53 This is great.Poshmark should be posting things like this a lot more.I really think they should be monitoring their site better! I can't believe what I see-used cosmetics, half full bottles of perfume, books! Thanks for posting this.
Jul 21Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @pearlgirl53 Totally agree. They need to put more resources into monitoring and holding users accountable. I report unsupported listings, but don't want to spend too much of my time doing it. Saw other users with similar posts in their closets and figured it was a good thing to do myself.

skylarkvintage @pearlgirl53 The perfume and nail polish listings really bug me since it's very clear they're not allowed because of USPS shipping restrictions. 🙄

pearlgirl53 @skylarkvintage Unbelievable! And the used makeup! They say, I've sanitized it and only swathed once or twice! What???
Jul 21Reply

skylarkvintage @pailface70 😆 You don't.... Which is why it's not allowed. It's funny on one level, but also kind of insulting. How stupid do they think people are? Amazing what folks try to get away with.

upcyclethrift
upcyclethrift @skylarkvintage I appreciate you taking the time to put this together! As someone who is new PM, I did A LOT of research before opening my account. You can only imagine my disappointment when everything listed under reasons for account termination, were being done in plain site; out in the open. Thankfully PM has been good to me thus far. However, it's unfortunate there is no accountability for those flagrantly breaking the rules & profiting from it.
Aug 01Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @upcyclethrift Hi, Kara! I know what you mean. I'm 3 months on PM & actually seen a big decrease in non-compliant listings since. PM does their best to keep tabs, but it's a big job. Some people simply don't care, some people honestly don't know they're selling items they shouldn't. I always report them so PM can look into it and take the appropriate action.

saintsandaints
saintsandaints Poshmark allows foundation lipstick and hair supplies. If you go to list makeup you will see a full list. Hair supplies is listed under accessories where can I find poshmark definition of hair supplies. Please guide me thanks.
Aug 09Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @lizzydavis123 Foundation and lipstick and foundation are allowed, they're under makeup (don't think I indicated they weren't, but wanted to confirm). As for hair supplies, I believe they mean things like headbands, barrettes, hair combs, etc. - not shampoo, conditioner, hair dye, etc. If you want confirmation/clarification you can email Poshmark and ask them to provide a specific definition, just to be on the safe side. They usually reply within a day. Hope this helped.
Aug 09Reply
saintsandaints
saintsandaints @skylarkvintage ok, most foundations come on liquid and creamy form. I didn't see anything on hair supplies.
Aug 09Reply
saintsandaints
saintsandaints Yes, they are pretty good about responding. It's unfortunate there's no list on which hair supplies or accessories because poshers will use their on interpretation.
Aug 09Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage I don't think foundations being liquid is an issue. As for hair supplies and accessories, it seems pretty clear that the things allowed are those that can be defined as fashion, i.e. items that can be worn for the most part. The first sentence of the Prohibited Items Policy, Prohibited Products says, "Poshmark is a marketplace for women's, kids' and men's fashion and accessories." Seems kinda clear to me. ;-)
Aug 09Reply
chawley21
chawley21 One thing I hate is the "counterfeit, fake, replica items" and the "Inspired By" - what irks me even more is when they list the item under a brand name "for exposure"! And PM needs to do a lot better job on monitoring the ratings, especially in regards to the fit! I've had a couple (2) 3 star ratings because items didn't fit; even with the size and measurements listed. When I disputed with PM they came back and told me the individual "was entitled to their opinion. Ratings can't be changed."
Aug 15Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @chawley21 Yeah, the "inspired by"/counterfeit thing is clearly stated in the Guidelines. I think people just don't care, or never bother to read them. It all needs to be monitored better. I'm assuming they just don't have enough people to keep up with the violations. The rating thing stinks. I'm sorry to hear. I've had a few, too. I figure it's just gonna happen. Most folks are great, though.

sofiee69
sofiee69 Huh? Interesting..im just a consumer on here...if ots illegal to sell perfume, body lotion, etc..WHY are so many of these being sold on Poshmark? Im just curious..also..just saw an item advertised as OOAK..( one of a kind) at a VERY high price(!!) when in fact..the exact same item , and photo(!!) is also being sold on PM for much cheaper...so..thats fraud, yes? Its..offensive! Well thank you dear for posting this..I did not know...S.
Aug 16Reply
sofiee69
sofiee69 @pearlgirl53 I know! And what about all the fraud? Items sold cheap on ebay re sol here for 10x as much..or, listed as OOAK or " vintage"!!! They often even use the very same photos!
Aug 16Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @sofiee69 I wouldn't say it "illegal" to sell some of these items, but they clearly violate the guidelines set forth by Poshmark. Which, as I understand it, is aimed on keeping the focus of the site only on specific products. As for the latter issue, it is fraud, but some folks just don't care how they make a buck. Shameful.
Aug 16Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @sofiee69 Oh, and as for the perfume - it isn't supposed to be sold here because all items on Poshmark are shipped via USPS, and it is actually illegal to ship flammable items through the mail. That's why nail polish is forbidden as well.
Aug 16Reply
sofiee69
sofiee69 @upcyclethrift yes..! I actually received a box...with nothing in it! Because it was after 72 hours- I had NO rights..( why 72 hours? Was in the hospital!) then, was attacked with a vicious tirade of insults by not just the seller, but her friends/ associates as well...Have had some great expeiences here on PM. .dont get me wrong..as a disabled person who depends on online shopping..its been convenient..and has allowes me to save $$...but do not feel there is enough back up for the consumer!
Aug 16Reply
sofiee69
sofiee69 @chawley21 yes! Its sad.
Aug 16Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @sofiee69 Holy smokes! That's awful! I am shocked to hear PM didn't do more to assist you. That's so disheartening. I'm sorry you experienced that. Am going to a PM event next week and will be happy to try and address this issue. Consumer protection is so important, especially from unscrupulous sellers.
Aug 16Reply
pearlgirl53
pearlgirl53 @chawley21 This happened to me! after giving this guy measurements first, before he purchased a mans leather jacket-he had the nerve to say"hey, it doesn't fit, can I return it! I explained how it works. He gave me 3 stars because he was pissed! Then I checked him out and he sells on Poshmark so he Knew the rules! I complained to Poshmark and they said the same thing!
Aug 16Reply
sofiee69
sofiee69 @chawley21 thats so unfair to you, as a scrupulous seller! THAT meeds to be changed!
Aug 16Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @pearlgirl53 There has to be a better way for PM to handle these kinds of issues. There are bad apples on both sides, buyers and sellers, and we all shouldn't have to deal with these things without support from PM. That's part of why we shop/sell here, the protections that PM is supposed to provide.
Aug 16Reply
sofiee69
sofiee69 @skylarkvintage ..thanks soo much for the empathy! No, PoshMark simply stated that because I reported too late- not within 72 hours- too bad!.I tried to contact them about the harrassment, but no reply. What is with this " 72 hour law", btw...( thank you)???.Also orderd high end shampoo n conditioner samples- were sent in a flimsy paper USPS " wrapper"..bottles opened in transit due to this thoughtless packaging ($6.99.. For this?) and list almostproduct..gave 4 stars as I was scared.
Aug 16Reply
sofiee69
sofiee69 * lost almost 50% of product! Still gave 4 stars and a calm suggest that seller reconsider packaging..never heard from her.

Aug 16Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @sofiee69 No one should be scared to report honestly here. I'm appalled. Seriously, I'm going to see if I can get some answers, or at least address it to the PM folks next week. It makes it worse for those of us who aim to give great customer service and sell responsibly.
Aug 16Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @sofiee69 Yeah, I'm still delightfully amazed at how many wonderful, thoughtful, kind and fabulous folks are on here. There are some people who are only here to make a buck, however they can, but there are SO MANY more people who are awesome!
Aug 16Reply
chawley21
chawley21 @pearlgirl53 thank you!! I also buy things on here that don't always fit... but that is part of the deal.. you aren't there to actually try it on!! ANYTHING you buy online has that risk! If you don't know how to use the information given to you... don't buy!! Lol. Not glad the same thing happened to you but glad I'm not the only one that has seen it!

pathb976 Good info, I'm still learning and experimenting with Poshmark but I've seen used lipstick for sale. I don't react, I did try to read up on it. Why is that allowed?
Aug 30Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @pathb976 So glad you found this helpful! I'm still learning as well. I was confused about what some of the Do's and Don't's were when I first got started, and I still ask questions. Wanted to give others a chance to get better familiar with is all, it only helps everyone be compliant and then do better. Far as I'm aware all makeup must be unused/unopened. Anyone selling used lipstick is violating Poshmark policy. It's just plain unsanitary... and kinda gross. ;-)
Aug 30Reply
pathb976
pathb976 @skylarkvintage Thank you, thank you. I was looking at Mac lipstick 💄 today and was alarmed at "hardly ever used, swabbed or even the term sanitized I will just buy mine unsealed at the store. I've been very active and seen quite a few oddities, life would be simpler if we complied. I didn't report because I'm older and thought I was being a bit judgmental. Boy I could've blown all kind of whistles the last couple of days. Thank you again

skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @cscarlettb Yeah, I get the requests to review, too! I'll do it if I have the time. I understand Posh is do some major hiring. Hopefully some of those new positions will be folks who enforce the TOS and keep track of all the violations. Some of them are so out there and bold. 🙄😉
Sep 04Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @cscarlettb A lot of the time those are ones where they've referenced brands that the item is "like". Any reference to another brand anywhere in the listing, including the description, is in violation because it will come up under all brands mentioned in the listing of someone does a search, when they're clearly NOT those brands. That's what I look for in those.

skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @bowen00 I usually don't have the time to just look and report, but if I come across something I always flag it. Have gotten the requests to review as well. Don't mind once in a while, but with how much we all pay in fees to PM I don't think it's very fair that we're being asked to do their job. It's part of what we as sellers pay for on the site. Know they're doing some major hiring right now, so hope that's part of what they're trying to fill. 😉

So then I got wrapped into reading all the comments! Sanitize makeup? How foolish can some people be! 😏 I def agree that it's unfair that all don't play by the rules. jackierct @skylarkvintage I am new to this and really appreciate your concise description of do's and don'ts. I have seen (and reported) some very funky items and some college texts, dvds, fake health drinks etc. [When I saw such things, I just blocked that person. Is that what I was supposed to do?] Thanks for clarifying!
Oct 08Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @jackierct I'm happy to help navigate some of the trickier aspects of Poshmark. Blocking is fine if you just don't want to deal with them. You can also report the listings to Poshmark if there's just one or a few, or the users themselves (which I do if they have tons of non-compliant listings. To report listings you tap on the listing, hit the symbol that you use to share, and it will also show an option to report. Hit that and then select Unsupported item, then Non-fashion. Hope that helps! 😁
Oct 08Reply
jackierct
jackierct @skylarkvintage That's what I did. I have to say that I felt somewhat guilty. But the listed items were completely inappropriate; it was like a virtual tag sale. 😱 The whole experience will go downhill if people sell their "junque" on PM...
Oct 08Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @jackierct Don't feel badly. We all agree to the same terms of use, the site is explicitly for fashion-related items. It's not craigslist or eBay where anything goes. If folks have those kinds of items to sell they need to use those platforms, just like a lot of other Posher's do. A lot of us work really hard to be compliant and play by the rules. It's not asking to much for fellow users to honor the same code of ethics. ;-)
Oct 08Reply
jackierct
jackierct @skylarkvintage This was very helpful to me! I wish PM had a little reminder on every page! I have seen some creepy non-compliant things. EEEW!
Oct 19Reply
skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @jackierct You're welcome! Happy you find it helpful. It would be nice if PM had some sort of note that appeared automatically on all listings or something, so no one had any excuse for listing non-compliant items. It's really amazing what some folks will try to sell on here. I've heard stories about things like cars and beds even, being listed although not sure how they'd ship them for $7 through the post office! ;-)
Oct 19Reply
jackierct
jackierct @skylarkvintage I wrote to PM when I saw some really disturbing items. Not sure why there cannot be a one sentence reminder: BEFORE YOU LIST AN ITEM, BE SURE IT'S COMPLIANT! We say one closet that was like the worst tag sale ever--- and had not a single article of clothing. Sigh...
Oct 19Reply
skylarkvintage

There's a lot of this info in the guidelines, but you have to kind of dig through to get it. So glad this is helpful. :)

skylarkvintage
skylarkvintage @singingcloset You're right, and I do need to update that info. However, I've also heard from a lot of Poshers that the USPS still has a lot of post offices that won't accept anything other than the Priority packaging, or sends them back. Seems the info hasn't been properly shared within USPS.

deborah_everett Thank you so much for providing this information. Regarding your information re liquids, lotions etc being against federal law to ship - that concerned me because I’ve been including a small tube of nice hand lotion with items I send to my buyers as a thank you gift. So I went to the USPS website & researched shipping/ mailing restrictions.
Feb 13Reply
deborah_everett
deborah_everett Whether it be 1st class, Priority or Priority Express - restrictions are the same. Liquids are not illegal as long as they are not hazardous & therefore on the restricted list. Nail Polish & perfumes are flammable, therefore hazardous & restricted. Lotions, creams, makeup, body wash, cleansers etc ARE NOT RESTRICTED but must follow the packaging guidelines I’ve copied & pasted below:
Feb 13Reply
deborah_everett
deborah_everett Screw caps with a minimum of one and one–half turns, soldering clips, or other effective means must be used to ensure a secure closure.
Feb 13Reply
deborah_everett
deborah_everett Glass and other breakable containers more than 4 fluid ounces and any containers over 32 fluid ounces must be cushioned within a sealed, waterproof container such as a can or a plastic bag, and must be packed within a strong and securely sealed outer packaging.

nailtechfriend @skylarkvintage I don't know how old this posting is because they've updated some things in the last year of what categories have opened up (eg: electronic devices) But, sometimes I will spend 45 minutes reporting a closet full of bath & body lotion/spray sets & a week or two later-IT'S STILL UP. I've seen poshers openly admit they just turn around & repost even after it was pulled down.
Aug 04Reply
nailtechfriend
nailtechfriend @lizfromny Actually, I just saw tonight there is a category for sex toys!!!!! If you would have asked me if it's allowed, I would have said No because it has nothing to do with fashion. I think this is ridiculous, many of us are trying to abide by the rules & there is not enough monitoring with Poshmark to keep up on this.
