Invented in 1907, Bakelite was most popular between the 20s-40s. This design and style has a 60s or possibly 80s vibe. Other plastics that came after in addition to Lucite, were Catalin, Acrylic and Celluloid. Bakelite is heavy, dense and hard, it can have a potent smell. A test to do is rub a piece vigorously on cloth, like your shirt sleeve or something, you want to produce heat and friction. The smell is like formaldehyde, sickly sweet chemical smell. You can also submerge in hot water.

There are many other ways to test, don't rely on one test. Bakelite has no seams as well. Lucite is acrylic and has optical clarity and transparency, Since Bakelite is dense there will be some heft to a piece, weightier than other plastics. Google how to test for Bakelite, there are some really easy tests using Brasso and baking soda, Good luck. You have a great closet!
