Hungarian Transylvanian Szeki Black Brocade Folk Jacket

Original folk jacket from the Hungarian village of Szek (Sic in Romanian), in Transylvania, Romania. Szek is well known for the preservation of its traditional folk dress, music, and dance. Collarless jacket is soft cotton/flannel in red & black print. Gathered shoulders Knife pleats down front, accented with black velvet bands from shoulders and at front opening. Sleeves feature vertical knife pleats and bands of black velvet. Pleated peplum from waist Back yoke is pointed at center; vertical knife pleats to waist. Closes with 7 buttons, one of which is mismatched (buttons are typical of the area’s style, and it’s not uncommon for them to be mismatched.) Combination of hand- and machine stitching Lined in medium weight cotton print.
