A fantastic collection of bracelets & cuffs, primarily vintage. This is a preview listing, if you’re interested in a piece, just let me know and I will create a listing for it. A few of these I’m on the fence about letting go of, (I’m a bangle gal!) but time will tell. Eras and materials vary, from the earliest days of her creations to more modern.
There are a lot of fakes out there- shop with confidence - I love Gerda’s work & don’t wear copies!

@xcbnil1234c Here are (most of) the bracelets, including some blue. I’m personally particularly fond of the Navy Pebble bracelet- but I just love the color lol

@xcbnil1234c oh I adore her bracelets! I don’t wear the necklaces enough, although when I do I feel so rich and beautiful. Maybe it’s the materials, rustling on me as I move. Sigh.

@xcbnil1234c I just realized I didn’t include the zebra bracelet. Oh well- I’m never selling it anyway! I would LoVe to see your collection! If you ever post a pic, please tag me so I can properly cover your goodies :D

Hi! I love your Monies collection!
I am intetested in 4/5 of the wood big cuffs. I have the black one, but I love the blue and green ones.

kyetaka
@claudiavladu hello! That’s actually pretty lucky because I don’t think I can bear to let the black one go (I adore it) & just yesterday put it back into its place of honor in my bracelet drawer lol lol I’m happy to build a listing for you tomorrow, when there is good light for the photos :)

@claudiavladu PS I love that blue one, too- is there a more flattering color? Seriously. Too great.

@akikicache @akikicache what are you doing directing people to your closet on my listing? This is considered very bad manners on this platform. I’m happy to share your items in return for shares, and to share knowledge, but don’t come onto a listing and do what you just did. It’s incredibly rude and disrespectful. Also, a Monies fan will find your item, the right person will come along for it. You don’t need to alienate other Poshers.

Are there ways to tell if an item is a fake? What would you look for?

@coultercouture Hello- sorry about the wait- I haven’t been online as much as normal these last few weeks. I think that the most obvious place to start is the signature, clasp, and stringing method- certain stretch string is common, but not others. Often something is labeled Monies, but it has a brass clasp— only they never used those, only silver, or the wooden/horn carved hook is actually molded plastic, made to look hand made.

@coultercouture If you’re an aficionado of the brand you become familiar with the iconic pieces and construction of such— the copies are just not as well made, or as heavy. And some styles have been so knocked off that it becomes very unlikely you’re buying the real deal. The stretch bracelets are like that, extreme caution is needed. Added to that, certain styles have become known as the brands, and they are very popular.

@kyetaka thank you so much for explaining! They are truly amazing. They really call to me.

@coultercouture Actually, there are some of those in this main photo! I was alerted to it by someone very knowledgeable, but I haven’t had the chance to re-take the picture (another thing on the to-do list). Do you see the tagua nut teardrop stretch bracelets? Those are not Gerda’s work! And the flat wood carved stretch bracelets are being mass produced now- a direct copy, for sure, but the quality between the read deal and the fakes is an ocean wide.

@kyetaka thank you again! Your closet and your knowledge are an inspiration to me. I have followed you since day one. I just love learning about the craftsmanship and history of your pieces. The Puka shell information was also very interesting. Part of my immediate family is from Hawaii and so it was interesting to find out more about Puka shells. I also live in California so I have been keeping my eye out for the real deal.❤️ Thank you for taking the time to explain.

@coultercouture With the carved twist bracelets something to know is that the wood is _dyed_, not painted. So you can pick up a knock-off super cheap, and its fine- the style is great, no matter what, but the wood grain and chatoyancy is lost, and they are prone to chipping and cracking. With the carved lucite its kind of wild, because there are “sister” bangles that go with them really well, but they are not from the brand.

@coultercouture On the coconut heishi necklaces lots of caution is needed: the vintage ones are so, so gorgeous. Smooth, soft on the skin, very fluid stringing. The fakes catch on clothing and do not have that hand polished shine. Oh gosh, this is all probably TMI and not helpful! If so I’m sorry. And of course I’m not an expert, just someone who truly loves the work. But I have been fooled plenty of times (ouch money ouch!) and probably will be again lol

@coultercouture Oh hello you’re here! :D you are welcome, I do hope it helps. I love earthy jewelry (obviously) and am always trying to learn more. You’ve got family in Hawaii?? You’re SO Lucky!! I have a few contacts there, but all professional. Shell jewelry is a passion of mine, so its a big goal to go and visit ni’ihau and other spots and see the workshops. Someday. (Sigh)(I’m back to post pandemic dreams, again)

@coultercouture I am actually going to be updating my Spot The Fake listing— I got some great ones in! I love picking them up and learning about the construction hahahaha (some of them are Really Good) And I will be doing a post about some of the more common Monies fakes, soon. As ever, time is short. But its on the list!

@coultercouture Thank you for following me! You are so sweet. Okay— I have to go and run errands before the snow hits. I may or may not still be in my pajamas 😮 but the roads will start icing as soon as dark hits so I’d better move. Have a beautiful day XoXo

Do you still have the seed beed bracelet?
Nov 12Reply

kyetaka
@jennpetvet I do, it’s tucked away with a couple of knock-offs, I’ve been meaning to do a post to show the differences. I’ll be pulling Monies bracelets to list in the next few days, I’m happy to include this one.
