Essex Glass Hunting Trumpet Horse Pin designed by Henry Blank Co.
Beautiful antique piece from the American art deco period, created in Newark New Jersey by the firm of Henry Blank Company, back in the 1920's. This pin brooch has been designed with the shape of a hunting trumped in solid yellow gold of 14 karats with high polished finish. It is embellished with an Essex glass carving of a enameled horse facing to the left. Fitted at the reverse with a hinged pin bar and a swivel mechanical lock.
Weight: 7.3 Grams, (4.68 Dwt).
Measurements: 35 mm by 28 mm (1.38 x 1.10 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped at the reverse with a "C" intersected by an arrow, coined a "Cresarrow", and is followed by "14". The cresarrow is a symbol of the famed jeweler Henry Blank. The maker's mark, the mark for the assay of the gold and signed, "HENRY BLANK Co. 14kt".
The Cresarrow mark
The makers mark C with an arrow through it, was first used beginning in the year 1890 by the jewelry manufacturer N.E. Whiteside Co.. When Henry Blank became a partner in 1903 it became Whiteside and Blank and by 1917 it was Henry Blank Co., and the makers mark remained the same for all periods of manufacture. This is a rare collectible item with great history, since Henry Blank himself survived the sinking Titanic, and the company records are now held by the New Jersey Historical Society in Newark.
