Not sure what material it's made of. I've seen the same thing where it says it's made of wood. It may be ironwood. It measures 4 3/4" in diameter, 3 3/4" high and the knob on top of the cover measures 1" high by 1 1/2" wide. The base measures 4" in diameter. Carved in a pine cone design. No chips, scratches or discoloration. It is a rich blackish-brown color. The bottom is covered in black felt. I don't want to ruin it, so I left it on. It could have maker's mark on bottom.
