robbielynnc @gumbob hey, lead the way!! Did you know the whole state shuts down, banks closed, schools closed, drive thru daiquiri bars ... OPEN! Would you like a gallon or a cup they say? ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ™†

gumbob @roblyn30 I think it's great that everyone celebrates. I have even seen The Nuns from St. Louis Cathedral dancing. The first time I ever went through a drive thru daq shop & they hand it to you & then give you a straw, lol. I remember when you could get a beer & the grocery store to drink while you shop ๐Ÿ™ˆ

neworleansla
neworleansla @gumbob "beer & groceries"-- Are you referring to Schwegmann Supermarket?! @roblyn30 The whole state actually doesn't close down! North Louisiana (and even Baton Rouge) are business as usual. Every few years we head to Baton Rouge, Lafayette, St. Francisville, or Shreveport for Mardi Gras break to do some "local sightseeing" or shopping and to get a break from the parades. It's like a local mini vacation. It's strange though because we're all off of work & school here, but just an hour away it's a normal average weekday.

gumbob @neworleansla Didn't know that everyone isn't shut down. I have always been in Fat City, Metairie, Kenner, LaPlace, The Quarter or out in Robert.....
Feb 06Reply
neworleansla
neworleansla @gumbob Ha, Fat City! That used to be my hangout. Now it's businesses instead of bars. How'd you end up in Robert of all places for Mardi Gras?!
Feb 07Reply
gumbob
gumbob @neworleansla Because I needed a break in the country lol. I can remember going to a day parade in Fat City. Arrived at 7 am - people were barely walking out of the bars & getting sick & started all over again ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™Š

robbielynnc @gumbob @neworleansla Hi southern Poshers! I've had a bad week off more complications meaning less posh time. @neworleansla, my memories where growing up in Tangi parish were everything was shut down ... 20 years ago. The local TV stations showed the parades all day. Nothing existed in my head but no school & parents had off. And you are right that locals would go snow skiing to get away too. But I have the best memories of the family version & in college the NOT family version. LOL I'm still having visions of King cakes in my dreams though!! Posh on sweet friends!! ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿ™‹

neworleansla
neworleansla @roblyn30 So sorry to hear that you had a rough week-- hopefully the weekend will be better. You're right, Tangi parish is still shut down. I now live in St. Tammany Parish (instead of Jefferson Parish) and my mother in law lives in Tangi--- both shut down for Mardi Gras. The local stations still show parades all day. But further west and north in LA is non-Mardi Gras--weird. Now, most people go to Disney for Mardi Gras week. And yes, college Mardi Gras! I don't do that anymore! As for king cake, still love it, but since we've had it about twice a week at work for the past 4 weeks I'm starting to get sick of it (until next year!). Probably better off your way-- in your dreams instead of on my hips!

gumbob @sweetbee17 When I was married we always made a fried turkey. And we have to fly bread in for PO/boys. There's one place around, he's from New Iberia that owns a little shop. Damn, he can cook. You feel like your home. Actually if he's real busy & need a Dixie we would go behind the counter & grab one. I want a chocolate snow ball with cream on top. Oh my goodness, I'm never going to sleep now.

robbielynnc @gumbob @sweetbee17 Hi posher peeps!! I'm just settling down. There is a unique bond between us LA folks. I lived in Pensacola for ten years & they eat mullet like its good. CRA Cra! All coonass/Cajuns know it's bait! When I lived in ATL, a guy from Lafayette would buy a one way ticket to put 100+ pounds of LIVE crawfish to ATL for a massive boil. I now live in Jackson, MS. We just got a Drago's & a Seafood Revolution (John Folse) to add to the Ruth Chris. We can eat up here now cher'!! ๐Ÿ™†๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿ™‹

Mar 07Reply
robbielynnc
robbielynnc @gumbob Right? In Jackson, Ms crawfish is $5 a pound!! Dad gets them for $2-ish a pound two hours south of me & brings them up. ha!! I once was flying to NYC to see a friend. I bought 10 pounds packed on dry ice & checked the box with my luggage. She put 5 in a few ziplocks & we passed them out to a few of hers friends. You thought it was gold!! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ“ฆ
