Handmade
Size: 14, adjustable to size 20 US
Materials: Cotton, linen
I adjusted this garment to approximately a woman’s size 14, but all seams could be released back to its original sizing. WHEN LET OUT:
Bust: 46”
Waist: 41”
Skirt: 36”
This gown features a tightly-woven cotton in a historically accurate print. Boning at the center back and front. Skirt is neatly pleated all around. Please note: there is no underskirt. The white panel you see in the photo is a chemise and not included.
WEARING: This gown closed with straight pins down the center front for accuracy but I added hook and eye tape for convenience. If you want accuracy you can remove it easily. For a good fit, you will need to wear a pair of stays or 18th century corset underneath.
MATERIALS: Gown is constructed of sturdy 100% cotton. Bodice is fully-lined with natural linen. The edges at the arm scyes and skirt attachment are left raw as is historically appropriate.
**This sale includes the gown only. Petticoats and are not included.
HISTORY: Closed-fronted gowns such as this became popular in the fourth quarter of the eighteenth century. They were commonly worn by women of all classes as practical day wear and were often worn with contrasting petticoats showing underneath. Printed cottons were shipped to the American colonies from England and India for sale throughout the broad trading networks that penetrated the county side along waterways and some overland routes.

I’m really interested. Is it more of a peasant gown with no fullness in the skirt?

@mgk5101 hi! Sorry, I missed the notification on this message.
The gown is only the outer piece. The skirt does not go all the way around as it is meant to be worn with an underskirt and shift for historical accuracy. So the white garment you see beneath it is for the photo and not part of the sale.
That said, the skirt is quite full—I just didn’t have any petticoat to put under it for the pic. Let me see if I can find a photo of it on, and you can get a better idea.

@mgk5101 ok—I added a couple photos of the dress being worn so you can see the fullness of the skirt. In effect—it depends entirely on what you wear underneath it
