Had Crafted in the Philippines by native artists of medium Hardwoods (acacia, manga), the flatback represents the folkart version or halfcarving, hence the name "flatbacks" In tradition of the larger three dimensional Santos often seen in churches and missions, this smaller style of Santos has existed as religious art form since the Spanish New World conquests of the 16th century. Beautiful distressed natural wood with teal, gold red and black accents. I have had this in my collection for 25 years and I know you will cherish it as much as I have.
