The close to the body fit is very flattering worn over a blouse or under a jacket. Fun Fashion Fact: Vintage versions of these vests were called Hug-Me-Tights and were popular during WWII when central heating was scarce. Girls wore them over a blouse with a suit jacket over both to keep warm in damp and drafty Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland. Back then everybody knitted and these vests were often fashioned out of yarn collected from old worn out sweaters which they unraveled, savaging the good portions and refashioning them into colorful combinations to create vests, socks, scarves, hats and gloves. This type of color knitting is called Fair Isle because it originated in the Fair Isles. It is very warm because a second strand of yarn is carried behind creating a doubly thick garment as the knitter switches from color to color. This technique produced a snug fitting doubly thick garments. Very practical!
