ktmang (PART1) WOW! I love your closet! I'm Katie. I'm the maid of honor at my best friends wedding in 3weeks & he is having an Indian theme. (Mom is Hindi) So all the girls are wearing these bling'n couture Saris that Aji actually designed himself and had made. But I've been trying to find some affordable Indian clothing to wear to, (1 or all) Aji's rehearsal dinner, bachelor party, the big dinner with both families and our/their closest friends. I can even change during the reception.

ktmang (Part2) AND** more then anything I'm trying to buy something that my 20 month old daughter could wear to the rehearsal dinner or change into at the reception for fun. She's a blonde, blue eyed baby and Aji is her God Father. She is the flower girl in the wedding and is wearing a fancy party dress because AJ didn't know if my daughter would even wear a little Saree.

ktmang Part3: But, I'd love to buy her something not provocative, something I could change her in easier then a sari and wouldn't require much if any alterations or fittings. I go to cbazaar.com all the time and I almost bought my daughter this adorable anarkali suit, but then I panicked! Is that an appropriate outfit to wear? Is it, "Hindi"? Or "Punjabi"? Or is that not even an issue? BTW, I'm sorry for this novel. I guess I'm asking/hoping/praying that if you have any advice for me, I'm all ears.

ktmang Part4: Example: is a kurti too casual for a nice dinner? Even if it looks pretty fancy and worn with nice heels? Is a Anarkali gown too over the top for a dinner? Do Punjabis even wear Anarkali gowns? (I've never seen any of the women in Ajis family ever wear anything but Saris to special events or kurtis to maybe a birthday. And that's when they are in Indian attire because they are very American.) Or, are there Saris that don't show the tummy and are all one piece?

ktmang 5: And do all saris along with other Indian gowns need to be so precise on the fitting? Meaning, I needed to give Aji 6 measurements of mine for the Sari to be made and it still has fitting issues. One last thing I promise; I'd like to eventually start buying/wearing 'everyday wear' because I'm so attracted to these looks! (Plus I like to wear styles that aren't necessarily "popular" or trendy.

ktmang Lastly, I must say, after having my daughter, I can't afford to pay a lot of money for fashion anymore. But I still try with 2nd hand shops, 2nd hand online, Poshmark and then of course Rue21 and Target. lol. Do you know of any inexpensive Indian clothing websites? I've seen some "modern Indian clotbing" on Cbazaar that are amazing, so I'd like to further my interest. Again, apologies for the long novel of a comment in pieces. But I'd appreciate your help so I could buy from you. :)

sunijoji @ktmang hello, sorry for the delay. Yes, you can wear either sari or shalwar suit for weddings and reception. Saris are more mature looking than other dresses. Punjabis wear both. Nice party wear dresses are what they would wear. Unfortunately they are very pricy. You can check out my closet and let me know if something you like. Otherwise check out eBay where you can bid on items.

ktmang 2: I have asked some other Poshers, but again, I'm still hoping & wondering if you had any tips/advice on what outfit a 2 year old girl may wear to a punjabi wedding reception andor a rehearsal dinner? AJ has wanted my daughter to wear, "A little Saree" or "something Aishwarya would wear in the movies when we were kids." LOL! So I'm not sure where to look.

I really love some of the modern outfits! I've become incredibly interested, (or obsessed lol) with this fashion for the last 6 months, so I'm hoping to get as much information as I can so I can hopefully start a new look for me.
