Beautiful cufflinks feature artwork depicting a piper playing the bagpipe. The domed image is created using white and green enamel with silver outlines and set in a silvertone bezel that measures 3/4 inch in diameter. Cufflinks are good quality, sturdy and weighty, and in like-new condition.
● According to some, the first bagpipe records appeared around 1000 BC via a Hittite carving, although the general consensus leans towards the idea that bagpipes were introduced to Scotland by the Romans. Although banned in Scotland after the uprising in 1745 as an instrument of war, bagpipe skills were kept alive in secret. Brought to the United States over one hundred and fifty years ago by Scottish immigrants, the bagpipe has become a symbol of mourning for fallen heroes, especially firefighters, and policemen. With the prevalence of bagpipes at funerals, many people have become familiar with songs such as “Danny Boy” and “Amazing Grace” as the traditional tunes to play.
