GLORIOUS 1940's BLACK STRAW TILT HAT + ORANGE FEATHERS & BROOCH

This is indeed such a showstopper hat from the fashionable 1940s'. The crown is tall and flat at the top, resembling a small top hat. There is a navy band surrounding the bottom of the crown. The brim is short and is adorned by 2 orange ostrich feathers. At the center front there is a brooch to complete the look. To keep the hat in place, there is an elastic band attached to the inside. Gorgeous!! Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
