Media reviews:
In an interesting move Freshjive will be dropping all forms of logo placements and branding on their entire collection from Spring/Summer 2010. Rick Klotz has always had an issue with the business of branding, yet loves designing clothing and t-shirt designs. As a result he decided to no longer use the name Freshjive on any product coming from them.
In 2009, the Los Angeles clothing company Freshjive decided to take a new approach to branding. Specifically, they got rid of their logo. And the funny thing was, they didn’t replace it. From 2010 on, no insignia would appear on their shirt fronts, their labels, their website—anywhere. Ten years after the publication of Naomi Klein’s No Logo, Freshjive were to be a brand without a mark, ready to prove that it could be done.
To many streetwear aficionados, the name Freshjive conjures up some of the hardest working designers and and innovators in the business. For over 20 years, Freshjive has been stocking skate shops and streetwear boutiques with their signature looks, often sporting one of the most recognizable logos of the 90’s. However, all of that is about to change as Freshjive embarks upon one of the world’s first anti-branding campaigns, in which they will be stripping their logos.
