Frank Usher Gold Tone Brooch

This brooch is a testament to the fall season with its colorful enamel leaves surrounding Swarovski crystals. It is stamped on the reverse side. It is plated in 18K gold and is a true statement piece. “Frank Usher” was launched during post-war austerity Britain, and was in actual fact a defunct name bought by Max and Anne Bruh, a married couple who had fled Nazi-occupied Germany as they were both of Jewish heritage and faith. Max Bruh had previously worked to the famous Berlin fashion house Friedlander & Zaduk. The couple were drawn to the idea that “Frank Usher” offered them anonymity, but the name was phonetically pleasing, instantly sounding professional and fashionable. Not to mention, it was far easier to buy a name than start a new business altogether, as at this point in British manufacturing you had to have textile trading coupons to operate, and this was incredibly difficult to find as a new business.
