First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung. Not going to lie, this is the saddest and most heart breaking book I’ve ever read- and the best memoir. I’m tearing up right now just thinking about it. Its the story of Loung Ung’s childhood during the Cambodian genocide. Check TWs or ask me about them- this is a REALLY heavy book, but its so so so worth it. I really believe this should be read by every person alive. Made into a movie now on Netflix, produced by Angelina Jolie.
