First printing with the publisher’s “A” and seal on the copyright page. Bound in original green cloth, tight spine, titles stamped in gold on the front cover and spine, x, 431 pp., illustrations by Will James. Will James (1892-1942) was an artist and author focusing on the American West. One of his other works, Smoky the Cowhorse, won the 1927 Newbery Medal, a special award for achievements in children’s writing.
