Alain Thomas, born in 1942, is a French artist known for his folk art style, featuring figures in landscapes, still lifes, and townscapes. A self-taught painter, he began his career at 20 and held his first exhibition in Nantes in 1963. Throughout his career, Thomas has illustrated over 20 books, including bestiaries, bibliophile editions, and children's stories. His artwork adorns various media, from Limoges porcelain to Aubusson tapestries. Initially, Thomas painted somber characters with indistinct faces, such as in Saltimbanque (1965). His artwork evokes deep emotions, adding a touch of nostalgia and intrigue to any setting.
