Beautiful, South Indian Kundan, temple or bridal necklace. A mosaic of kemp jewels creates a motif of a Gandaberunda (a mythical, 2 headed peacock). Kemp means that the stones are synthetic. These are made of glass, the green ones are uranium glass. Kundan refers to the setting of the stones in 24 kt gold. I have tested the gold and it is 24 kt. The base metal is brass. You can see the layer of gold and stones on top of the brass if you look at the edges. The beads are brass and there is a nice push pull box clasp as well. Unsigned, though it seems like someone tried to scratch some letters into the back. It is faint but you can see it when you look in the right light and at the correct angle. There may have been pearls dangling from the bottom based on other images I've seen of this type of jewelry. There are also cracks in a couple of the stones, not too noticeable, but still worth noting. There is some tarnish on the brass areas. The pendant measures 3 ½" across and 2 ½ from top to bottom. The necklace length is ≈ 21 ½". This is from my grandmother's estate (1923-2020). My grandmother traveled to India in the 1960s, though I do not know if she purchased this while there, as she was also a frequent shopper at thrift stores and flea markets.
