tinkerbelle1975 @mrsangiej Yup - graduated in 1998 - bless ur heart!! It's a very challenging program Bc you will be the cardiopulmonary expert practitioner. Keep in mind - nurses only allow/go over cardiopulmonary about 2 wks is what their curriculum allows whereas we spend a minimum of 2 years for RRT w/Associates in Applied Science - now they have Bachelor programs u can work on after u graduate ur Associates.

tinkerbelle1975 @mrsangiej They r trying to give us more education - more boarded credentials beyond our RRT to bridge the pay gap & make us unexpendable. Trust me- most runs don't know their butts from a trach Bc they aren't trained too. But- they rule the world.

tinkerbelle1975 @mrsangiej The powers that be - the powers that provide & oversee the accreditation requirements are now working on passing & putting together the correct accreditation of a Master's program for RRT's to be the equivalent of what a masters in nursing does for rns to become nurse practitioners - it used to be that the highest u could go in Resp was ur registry.

tinkerbelle1975 @mrsangiej That's why they've come up w/RT Bachelor programs to pave the way to RT masters - same responsibilities - writing for meds - working under pulm Drs like PA's do

tinkerbelle1975 @mrsangiej not to be discouraging - Bc I LOVE MY JOB & WE R THE ONLY ONES QUALIFIED TO DO IT- but, if i knew more about hospital politics - pay scales- better incentives & that I didn't have to be a floor nurse - I prob would have gone into nursing Bc there's not a whole lot of diff opportunities for RTs as there are rns.

tinkerbelle1975 @mrsangiej U can be a nurse & not even have to "nurse"- there's other job opportunities besides the hospital floor & units. I went to RT Bc we r a specialty. I did not want to be a floor Rn I wanted to be in the action & a specialist.
