Edward Knowles Pottery was an American based company started in Chester, West Virginia in 1900. It later expanded into Newell in 1913. Both locations made Knowles dinnerware until the early 1930s. This beautiful antique is oblong in shape and is called "Spring Blossoms". Knowles vowed to create the finest semi vitreous china. Bone china and porcelain are exposed to such high temperatures, their clays fuse together, making them vitreous. Vitreous items absorb less than 3 percent moisture. Semi-vitreous pieces absorb from 3 to 7 percent moisture. THIS PIECE IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THAT PLEDGE. Perfect for serving that roast where the vegetables won't fall off the sides. Beautiful hanging amongst your dish display. The shape of this piece makes it quite rare. No nicks or cracks with some crazing on the backside.
