EXCEPTIONAL 1940s' BLACK STRAW FEDORA WITH IVORY EDGED TRIM & FEATHERS

This is an unusual and most elegant black straw fedora from the fashionable 1940s'! The crown is tall and slanted towards one side, plus it is indented at the top. The brim is downturned. There is a black grosgrain band surrounding the crown. The fabulous features are at the front: There is a pleated piece of black netting edged in ivory that is creatively placed so it rides upon the crown. There are some strategically placed little pearls between the netting.A magnificent pair of twisted ivory and black feathers and quills are at the top. There is an elastic band attached to the inside to help keep the hat in place. Stunning!!!! The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. Please do not expect perfection! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
