This piece of early photography equipment is known as a contact print frame used for the reproduction of glass negatives.
The negative was placed flat against photographic paper inside the frame. The wooden back was then closed and locked tightly into place.
I believe the dial kept track of the number of prints made.
Today, they are often used to display pictures.
Outside edges measure 9” x 7" x 1". No glass. Maker name clear. Used from 1870s to early 1900s. In very good vintage condition.
