Decorative Handcrafted Lunca Blackware Clay Pottery from Honduras.

Lenca burnish / blackware pottery is made by putting the design on the piece, baking it in coals and after the design is taken off leaving a black design where the fire came in contact with piece. piece is sealed. there is more to making it and I may not have all the details correct. I picked these up in Honduras over 15 years ago. bringing them back through the airport to VA. I was facinated by the skill and details on making these. This one has 3 legs, top has a design leading up to a series of circles with raised edges. There is about 2" tail and the main piece is 12" across and stands 4" high.
