Damascene Black and Gold Bangle Bracelet with Chain flower and bird design

Beautiful vintage black and gold etched Damascene bracelet with safety chain. This bracelet has a traditional Renaissance bird and flower design featuring a delicate safety chain. Damascene is an art form with it's roots in the Middle Ages. It is a process by which deep cuts are used to engrave a design into metal. The metal is then coated with an oxidizing solution which causes it to turn black. The engraved design is then inlayed with gold leaf. This hinged bracelet measures approximately 6.2 x 5.5 centimeters on the inner circumference and is secured by a push in clasp.
