This is a beautiful 1950s' asymmetrical cocktail hat made of a soft straw woven into a flat circle with "stays" at each side. Stays were ever popular during this period, and they helped keep small hats in place. The straw is woven into wide bands that are criss-crossing all over the hat. There is a "stem" that runs across the top center of the hat and then extends upwards and ends in what could be a flower "bud".
Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble.
LABEL: Styled by JO CHICK - New York
