DIAMONDS & RUST Distressed Customer Vintage Dynafelt Cowboy Hat

The minute I pulled this vintage Dynafelt hat out of the box, it was love at first sight. It was bent, faded, moth eaten, had a tall cowboy creased crown, and was this wonderfully warm rusty brown color. I set out to emphasize it’s character, while experimenting with its shape. I steamed and reshaped it, giving it a ridge on the crown, something I had seen on a hat by Gunner Foxx, a master hatter I admire. This rustic old hat behaved well as I molded it and suddenly I had the exact shape I wanted! I burned it strategically and sanded some bits to give it more contrast. I added a burned leather band, some leather cord, a rusty chain, and a spray of feathers, including a macaw, crow and pheasant feather. Size is 71/4, which is almost 23” and it adjusts smaller with a Velcro tab underneath the sweatband. This is not a fast fashion polyester hat that’s been melted to create a design. It’s a quality fur felt blend, and if you look at these hats next to those cheap mass produced, “burned” faux hats, you will soon notice the extreme difference in authenticity and quality.
