This is a Koessinger "Frohe Weihnachten" Santa Claus Ceramic Boot Mug, a souvenir from a German Christmas market Christkindlmarket in Chicago.
The tradition of drinking beer from boot started in the military as a hazing ritual.
Young men were initiated into their troops by having to drink and entire boot of beer from the literal boot of a fellow soldier.
This ritual became one of pride and congratulations. They would be reward of drinking from the general's own boot for a battle won. Boots were later engraved and given as gifts.
Design:
The mug is shaped like a boot, typically associated with Santa Claus or traditional German Christmas celebrations. It features festive decorations, including stars, toys, cars, and angels.
Capacity:
The text "0,25l" indicates a capacity of 0.25 liters, KO, which is approximately 8.45 fluid ounces.
Origin:
The "KÖ" marking and "Frohe Weihnachten" (German for "Merry Christmas") is a product from Koessinger, a German company, and likely a souvenir from a German Christmas market or festival.
It has no date and through my research I was unable to pinpoint a year. It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks.
It is clean on the inside with no stains or stir marks.
The colors are bright and beautiful with no fading.
Do not use in dishwasher. Always wash by hand. Do not use in microwave.
