1988 Paperback Editor Joseph Jacoby has compiled a collection of criminology and criminal justice related treatises representing the benchmarks as well as the most influential writings the discipline has to offer. The text is broken down into three sections: The Classic Descriptions of Crime; Theories of Causation of Crime; and The Social Response to Crime. The text also offers a chronological listing of the writings from the earliest to the most recent modern contributions to the science. Authors include: Karl Marx and his "Class Conflict and Law;" William Westley's "Violence and The Police;" Michel Foucault's "Discipline and Punish;" and of course Wilson and Kelling's "Broken Windows: The Police and Neighborhood Safety." As a Professor of Criminal Justice I recommend this text at the outset of any pursuit of undergraduate studies. Jacoby's text brings it all together so that the criminal justice student has access to a nearly complete offering of the relevant key ideas of criminology and is able to follow the development of the theories and practices culminating in the modern American system. Unblushingly five stars for creating a useful text for the discipline. cart
