Designed by Peruvian Designer E. Contreras. It is handcrafted in the time-honored Andahuaylas-style of reverse-painted art glass. The wooden chest is covered with glass panes that have been hand painted on their reverse sides in floral and foliate motifs that exemplify a traditional Andean art form. It has a crack in the bottom right drawer and middle of the middle drawer. On the back the wood of the lid is slightly peeling off Gold paint.
It weighs 4 lbs. and measures as follows:
Chest: 8½” x 8” x 6” H/W/D
Lidded top interior mirror: 5” x 2½” W/H
Upper compartment: 6½” x 4½” x 2” W/D/H
Middle slender wide drawer: 6¼” x 4½” x 1¾” W/D/H
Lower box-type drawers: 2¾” x 4½” x 1¾” W/D/H apiece
This beauty is handcrafted from wood that is clad with glass panes, on all sides and top. Floral and foliate motif colors are rich pomegranate with ocher, beige, black and gold; antiqued gold paint on the trim; black turned bun feet and underside. In excellent condition with a few of life’s bumps and bruises (see photos 4 & 12) that do not detract from its beauty and functionality. Handcrafted in Lima, Peru; artist signature on the side of one of the glass panels. It is a one-of-a-kind piece that was made sometime in the late 1980s to early 1990s. An elegant and whimsical piece that will complement most any style and charmingly adorn any dresser or vanity top. Message me with any and all questions!!
