The tree is lit by a bulb attached to the removable base. The bulbs are lit by the light from the bulb shining thru them loke a lite brite. The plastic lights just set into the tree and are not attached. There are a number of spares. The cord is over six feet long. The on off switch is on the cord. It is not a recent purchase so probaly vintage.there are some marks on the base by the light.A few chips on the base
