Caro-Nan Handpainted New England Basket Purse Fremont NE Signed Vintage

It all started with a gift Carolyn McDaniel received from her mother, a decorative woven basket, inspired by one she had seen at a local yarn shop. With so much interest that surrounded the purse whenever Carolyn was out and about, she and her friend Nancy Steele started a home-based business making their own basket purses. Using sturdy New England baskets with handles, lids, latches and hand-painted town scenes of row houses, storefronts and city icons, these purses quickly drew a steady customer base from 1965 until the early 80s. This hand-painted and decoupaged woven basket features places in Fremont, Nebraska including Look Nook Shop, Keene Library, May Museum, Love Opera House, Midland College and Fremont High School. The lid shows popular destinations to travel to such as Tower of London, The Parthenon, Tour Eiffel, Trivoli Gardens, Via Veneto & Buckingham Palace. The rim below the lid has more travel themes including spoil yourself travel, love, Best of Broadway, Hawaii, New England, Paris, Thrill of a Lifetime. The inside lining features the original quilted floral fabric. The bottom is covered in black felt though some has worn off near the corners. A bit of the black lettering has faded and there is a small chip on the front left side, please review pics. Lid: Signed Caro-Nan & Look Nook Shop Fun Fact: There are stories of kids sitting on these purses to get a better view over people's heads in a church pew or movie theater, not that I condone such a practice.
