'Willy and the Poor Boys' is the fourth studio album by the American rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR). It
was originally released in October 1969 by Fantasy Records, just two months after the group had performed at the landmark Woodstock Festival in August and made several high-profile television appearances, including The Ed Sullivan Show.
The album's cover photo was shot at the intersection of Peralta St. and Hollis St. in Oakland, California, in front of the Duck Kee Market. The album peaked at #3 on the US Billboard 200.
The album's lead single 'Down On The Corner' jumped to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 'Fortunate Son', reached #14. The latter became an anti-war anthem and a symbol of counterculture, including opposition to "class bias" during the draft and an expression of solidarity with US soldiers fighting in Southeast Asia. The song has been featured extensively in pop culture depictions of the Vietnam War and the subsequent anti-war movement.
The album was certified Double Platinum in the US and has been included in several editions of Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 greatest albums of all time."
