CLASSY 1950s' NAVY STRAW HAT + IVORY GROSGRAIN & FEATHER TRIM

This is a small but powerful hat from the fabulous 5os"! The round crown is short and flat at the top. There is a navy grosgrain band around the crown. The brim is short. There is an incredibly creative circle of folded grosgrain at one side of the front, from which the ends of the grosgrain band plus a covered wire "stem" emerge. At the end of the "stem" there is a navy feather :"flower". There are 2 stays inside the hat to keep it in place. These stays were extremely popular in the 1950s'. Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. Please do not expect perfection! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
