CHIC 1960s' PALE BLUE WIDE BRIM HAT - VELOUR BAND + LARGE WHITE OSTRICH FEATHER

This is a delightful pale blue straw hat with a gorgeous large white ostrich feather. The round crown is indented at the top and surrounded by a wide brim, which is upturned at the back. There is a velour band around the crown that ends in a bow at the side. There its an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to keep it in place. Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. Post war 1940’s and 1950’s saw many women choosing not to wear hats on a regular basis. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. Generally speaking hats remained small and close to the head.
